Choke on that!
Hello everyone, how are you doing today?
The phrase "choke on that" is familiar, at least I know I have heard it a couple of times especially in the movies. It is quite precise and it is instructive too, looking at it in a deeper way.
However, the phrase as much as it has a literal meaning attached to it, it also has various meaning too. It can be viewed from various angles based on the context. The context would determine the usage of the phrase and most importantly the meaning it connotes.
I will give examples of different ways the words are used with examples so you can see the differences. They are below:
• To have difficulty accepting something: For example, "The new phone is a great piece of technology, but many people will choke on the price" Link
• To have difficulty breathing because something is blocking your throat: For example, "Children can choke on peanuts". Link
• To fail to do something well because you are nervous: For example, "It looked like an easy goal, but he choked and missed the shot". Link
These are the few meanings I could find, and there are more too. So, it is wrapped around the same idea but the usage is different.
I have a thought on it too, this is just my thought. It looks like a meditate on this something to me. Like choke on what I told you, meditate on what I just said. Probably the ideas are too much, it can make a person choke.
