Of course pills are usually bitter, hence the avoidance to use them. So is the idiom, the bitter pill. It speaks of something unpleasant or something difficult, but you just have to swallow it.

To be frank, life is full of bitter pills.
But we just have to take our fair share of the pills, there is no running away from the pills. The best we can do is taking as less pills as we can. Sometimes, we just get unpleasant news without having anything to do with it. Most times it is not our fault, we just find ourself where the pills are distributed.

Ad much as bitter pills are not pleasant, some folks enjoy it. We just have different set of folks around us.
