EXPLODING RATS

There are so many cards to explore in the Splinterlands Universe and this week I chose to make my drawing after a not so usual trend. The cards I've drawn over time are of singular nature and only have one character on them. This week's drawing is different in that sense. I instead drew a pack of rats, exploding rats. If I'm being honest, I didn't at all believe that the color limitation I usually implement would give me a result this good. I guess anything is possible once you put your mind to it.
At this point I would like to note that the pieces of rat floating around was a last minute idea that I wished I had earlier. If I did, it would have turned out better.

The card

I started off the piece with my blue pen lineart

Then I structured the head and body parts. The funny thing is that the corroborating reference I used was that of a rabbit. That why you'd notice this particular rat is different from the others.

I then had to draw other rats and position them in a way that wasn't too difficult to manipulate if needs be..

I chose red to represent the outburst about to happen and blue for the body of the rat. I also added some floating body parts....

I then re-enforced the previous process...

At this junction instead of repeating myself I would like to state here something I forgot to write in my opening remark. Yiu wouldn't believe that when I was looking for a reference for the card I drew I saw an image of an experimental sketch for exploding rats. The insides had been emptied and stuffed with explosives.

I shaded the body parts, at least the ones I could easily spot were lagging....

added a floating head by the right to make it more realistic and finally, the finished work.

The materials I used while making this sketch are blue, black and red pens from two brands: BIC and SCHNEIDER
