FIRE ELEMENTAL

This is the second time I will be drawing the Fire Elemental this year and I obviously made some changes. First in the way I represent the character and also in the use of colors. This time I used four colors for this drawing as opposed to the three I often use and I also ommited the Blue ink in this drawing.
Before I started this drawing I put in mind the person in the card. I reasoned that an Element usually doesn't have a definite shape so placing this wonderful character in a bound system would not do her justice. That and the color consideration were part of the major reasons I chose to use the color Red as my opening for the first time.
Breaking off from my usual convention, I used my Red pen for the first layout. I noticed the last time I drew the Fire Elemental that there was a kind of color mixup especially with the Blue pen. The black blended in seemlessly and served as depth in some regards but the Blue stood out. So to remedy this, I used a Red ink instead of Blue.
Next I shaded the hair in varying tones. I left some fillings blank and did some with multiple layers to create the illusion of depth. The proper and timely way of shading helped me achieve this effect even if it's just for the hair. The lips and eyes took some Black shadings too
The arm was shaded with Red and Yellow also shaded in such a way that it grows. I didn't properly smoothen this though.
The body enveloped all the spectrum I used in making this drawing. I was confused at some point as to how the gradation would be because the Yellow and Orange pen had ink overflowing. I could barely control the movement so I just went along with it.
The face took a glow up and I felt like for this color Yellow will be the best. I layered it so and added some Orange and Black. It wasn't firm though
The final step had me touching the hair colors again and blending them. After that I made sure to brighten the face and make the impression of the gradation I earlier talked about.
The materials I used while making this sketch are Yellow, Orange, Black and Red pens.
