Eldest, Chapters 9-12

Chapters read:

  • A Sorceress, a Snake, and a Scroll
  • Hrothgar's Gift
  • Hammer and Tongs
  • Retaliation

These were very intriguing chapters! I think a reason why Eldest does seem better is because well, it just is written with more skill I believe, but also I think learning about more characters feels more exciting. The story is developing at a much quicker rate. Of course, all of this is possible due to 'Eragon' so all in all my respect for Eragon's simplicity, for a lack of a better word, really grows. Eragon really was a pure, pleasant foundational piece of this journey.

Eragon and Saphira's mental connection is further explored. As much as Saphira and Eragon care for one another, it is not always sunshine and rainbows being mentally connected pretty much 24/7. Shouldn't be too surprising, they are not even of the same species!

Nasuada! The Varden's new leader after Ajihad, her father and former leader of the Varden, was killed. She is one of my favorite characters for sure. She is poised and logical and kind.

I find it very bold and honestly borderline unnecessary that Nasuada decided to move the ENTIRE Varden all the way to Surda! But all in all I do suppose there are some benefits in doing this. I like Nasuada, but she does seem a bit aggressive in her movements. I do respect her decisiveness though. She has a distinct plan and is not hesitating. As powerful as Galbatorix is, she is surely making him think!

I totally forgot that Eragon was adopted as a Dwarf man! Pretty interesting. Overall cool though, I like Orik.

The next two chapters are from Roran's perspective back in Carvahall. I love going back to his story. It's like I'm reading two different books in one! Very fun. Without the benefit of magic, Roran and the village are slowly taking a stand through sheer grit and determination. Roran is tackling eighty different problems at once in just a matter of weeks. The dude is tough as nails man. The Ra'zac are just nasty.

I can't remember what happens next in Eldest and I am loving it. The book is really getting into it's groove now. Let's goooo!!!
