Eldest, Chapters 41-44

Chapters read:

  • The Nature of Evil
  • Image of Perfection
  • The Obliterator
  • Narda

These chapters feature more character development. More challenges. More learning. Eragon and Saphira may not be in the midst of battle, but it seems that improving as a Rider and a person can be just as difficult as slaying an enemy.

Oromis is filled to the brim with awesome information on pretty much any topic possible. He feels like the Dumbledore of the Inheritance Cycle right about now. Learning more about the Ra'zac (from Oromis) felt more exciting than the first time around. I actually find the monsters more creepy than I did years ago, similar to how I found Elva more alarming this time. Basically the Ra'zac are truly a cryptid that live to destroy humans. Literally, they are like the physical counterparts to humans. Oromis said they aren't mammal, reptile, amphibian or ANYTHING like that. Makes me wonder if they're aliens. I also found it chilling to learn about the Ra'zac's PARENTS. They're names are pretty cool for an evil creature. They're called the 'Lethrblaka' and they can freaking FLY. Nuts. I also found it eye opening when Oromis said that Lethrblaka can be just as intelligent as DRAGONS. I totally forgot these little details about the Ra'zac and Lethrblaka. They also remind me of the monster from the 'Jeepers Creepers' movie.

Eragon has to practice swordsmanship with the awful elf Vanir who is a big fat jerk. Vanir not only talks a bunch of crap to Eragon, but Vanir is faster and stronger than Eragon as well. So overall it's just a big old beatdown every morning. Yikes. Plus the seizures from the Shade's slash make all of this worse. Eragon is basically in Rider boot camp.

Chapter 'Narda' is from Roran's perspective and it's once again pretty intense. The man is truly winging it at levels that are just unheard of. Again, his whole tale reminds me of adulthood. Think on your feet, keep it moving, no time to stop. Learn on the go. Dang. He's basically about to become a pirate and ship a whole town across a good portion of Alagaesia. The man seems to be living off of pure adrenaline and determination. Nobody is going to deny this guy it seems. One of my favorite characters ever.

Well over halfway done now, I don't even know if I remember how Eldest or even Brisingr ends! Not fully. Let's go!!

My pleasure. That book was on my bookshelf for years and I'm ashamed to say that I never read it. I must have given it away to someone else, because I don't own it anymore.

Aw it's ok, the world of Alagaesia will always be there if you choose to give it another shot! I've heard rumblings a year or two ago they may make a show on Disney+ but I have not heard any updates in awhile.
