Eldest, Chapters 25-28
Chapters read:
- The Dagshelgr Invocation
- The Pinewood City
- Queen Islanzadí
- Out of the Past
Entering the middle of Eldest now and the book is really starting to set the tone for the rest of the series. The writing is phenomenal and the positive nostalgia in this book is pretty amazing.
These chapters are a smidge slow at times but the journey through the land is still wonderful. I really took time to appreciate the moments and envision Du Weldenvarden. Picturing Eragon and Saphira's bedroom, which is basically the chillest treehouse in the history of the world, in the forest overlooking Ellesmera was just such a fun read. Learning about the 'Faelnirv' beverage was also fascinating. Now that I'm older I see the resemblance to 'fail nerve'. LOL clever. Re-reading this I noticed how in certain moments it's flat out said that Ellesmera and certain aspects of the elven world are some of Eragon's favorite things he's seen in Alagaesia so far. Re-reading this it is interesting to me because I know how deep Eragon is about to enter the world of the elves. I remember last time I read these, Inheritance Cycle does a fascinatingly good job at making past events, like all of Eragon for example, feel like a lifetime ago. Does a nice job at evolving.
While the chapters were slightly slow, they made up for them in some solid information that is pretty shocking. Arya being a Princess and related to some super OG names in Alagaesia lore. Then, at the very end of 'Out of the Past' an unknown golden dragon and Rider is revealed!! Magical stuff.
The series is seriously cooking now. Pure joy these books bring.
