A Quiet Place (2018) was a bit odd
Well, I'd be lying if I said I loved 'A Quiet Place'. I thought it would be better. I'm just going to say what I didn't like first, and end it on some positives.
To start, it was fairly difficult to take John Krasinski seriously. After the massive success of The Office, it was pretty hard to really get lost in the film. Get to the Office, Jim.
To start off the film, I found it extremely strange that the family had the youngest, most vulnerable family member way in the back of their little line? I mean come on. The family went through all of these precautions but somehow as they were traveling they just had what looked to be a three year old in the way back, by himself? I mean I just can't believe how dumb that was. It's like they seem sooooo urgent and worried but they do something like that? What?
Also, this in itself didn't bother me too much but, when added to some of the other bigger question marks I have, this aspect doesnt help. Sand? Barefoot? I just don't see how those precautions were too realistic. I don't hate these aspects, just mildly eyebrow raising.
The father and son literally screaming under a waterfall? How is this not a problem? These things have super hearing yet literally screaming is not problematic? Cause of a waterfall? Meh.
The rules of these alien creatures simply was spotty and inconsistent, maybe I missed a detail about the creatures but, I thought if you stayed quiet you'd be safe? Many occasions in this film it seems that the alien beasts still stuck around despite it being pretty quiet.
Figuring out the high pitched noise would hurt the aliens was pretty cool. But, did this weaken them or something? How is it a freaking gunshot to the face just kills them??? When the mom shot the alien and it just died I felt like I was actually watching a comedy. All the events and precautions seem truly insane and just kind of a joke. Unless the high pitched noise weakened them, this is just a wild wild way to end the movie. Made the whole movie feel a bit pointless. Just shooting them in the darn head is all it takes?
I could have missed a detail but I don't know. Doesn't even feel entirely my fault either though because there was barely any talking in this movie which of course is understandable but it didn't exactly help me understand what was happening at certain points.
To not be so critical, this is a fun movie I will admit. The concept is pretty simple, I mean that in a good way, and fairly unique. It's pretty good for a casual watch and the suspense was solid enough.
It was not the worst movie I've ever seen, just consistently awkward and hard to believe at times. But it had it's moments.
