The Cardano network recovered within minutes. Nodes automatically restarted and the ecosystem was unaffected. The reason for the outage is under investigation.

Cardano developers reported the error on GitHub, but said that all nodes had automatically restarted. The incident occurred Sunday morning, a Telegram group from IOG, the technology development company behind Cardano, also reported.

Some of you may be aware of an incident last night at approximately 00:09:00 UTC (between block 8300569 and 8300570) that caused approximately 50% of Cardano nodes to go offline and reboot.

According to the message, the outage affected relay nodes and block-producing nodes, although block production was only briefly affected due to network timing. Nodes are network stakeholders that maintain and process transactions on any blockchain and are essential to the maintenance of any network.

"This appears to have been caused by a transient anomaly that triggered two node reactions, some disconnected from a peer, some threw an exception and restarted," the message said, explaining the sudden outage.

Tom Stoknes, co-founder of Node Shark and Cardano's participation group operator (SPO), shared a graph showing the timing of the desynchronization and noted how connected nodes went from 100% to less than 60%. According to the graph, network synchronization recovered after the outage, but did not immediately return to its previous level of 100%.
