Drawing the Goblin Bomber for the Splinterlands Art Contest

Hi friends, it’s been some time since I did anything in this space. The noose at my place of work has tightened and since the past two weeks happen to fall in the middle of the year we had to come up with and recheck the mid year reports. Some days before the end of June even, we closed down our branches early, stopped attending to customers and just faced documents. It was tiring. I know one day I will be independent of all this and have soething of my own to sustain me and my family. Eventually when the mid-year report compilation and cross-checking and referencing was all over I had to take a week’s break. I am sorry if I kept any of my viewers waiting in anticipation, it wasn’t intentional and I had to clear my head after everything.
Now that the dust has settled, I cooked up something wonderful for you. The last time I made a drawing of the Goblin Bomber it was only with my Graphite. Looking back at the graphite drawing again before I shared this kind of made me teary. I saw a lot of growth not just in coordination but also in capturing the essence of the character and ofcourse in my recent use of pencil colours. The use of colour brought life to my drawings. Since I had every intention to correct the former lapses and show improvement in my drawing process, I went after a more realistic approach this time. I was able to achieve this to a degree on his face but the changing positions I had to observe while drawing didn’t give me enough room to go through the same process for the whole body.
While drawing this, there were little moments of recosiderations as to the positionality of the character, how I wanted him to be perceived and the true intent of his nature. I wanted to make sure these were all captured in a little way. To achieve this therefore, I made sure to spread his grin well across his face. His smile resembles the clown guy from IT. I never saw the movie though cause I was too and still am scared to so please don't tease me, I'm not a fan of the horrors.
But still, I like making things in that line not necessarily to scare people but because of the kind of graphic appeal those drawings eventually have. Take this Goblin Bomber for example, you can see how interesting and inviting his face is compared to the rest of his body, that is the kind of appeal I am after, something Graphic.
I used different shades from my Masterart set of pencil colours mixed with the 10B Bianyo I always use to make this drawing. I don't think I have ever spoken about the reason for this choice. The Masterart set of pencil colours have soft leads and they blend (not so easily but smoother than some others) well enough for me. I have used a number of set in the past year and this particular one makes the job easier and faster. There are some hiccups though that the others more than make up for but the ease to this set is worth mentioning and seeing how unpermitting my schedule usually is, I went with this to get something done fast and well. As per the graphite, I got that from my Ex who introduced me to the platform and art itself. You most definitely know him. I made it a habit some while ago to list the different shades of colours I use for my art pieces and here they are; red, brown, green, yellow, orange and black.
