Titans get crushed by Colts 41-20 and fall to 0-3
Ugh yeah everything is wrong with the Titans but I'm not surprised. They were 3-14 last season and well, not many quarterbacks, even all-time great rookies would be able to turn this team into winners. There is still time for some unexpected turnaround don't get me wrong, but I really don't expect much success for the Titans this season. At this point let's see about winning 5 games. That would give the Titans two more wins than last season and it secures another reasonably high pick. Everyone wants Brian Callahan fired but at this point I just say let him at least finish the season.
The Colts were just the better team in every way on Sunday. It's really that simple. It was a steady, consistent destruction by the Colts over sixty minutes.
Cam Ward looked fine I would say. He looks uncomfortable in the pocket sometimes. I think he has strong potential, he just needs to keep stacking reps. The Titans have decided to start the rookie vs having a veteran bridge type of quarterback for Cam to sit behind and watch so, they might as well go all in on the philosophy of just letting him learn through sheer play on the field. In terms of what I see from Cam as a talent at this point, he's competent yet not obviously elite at anything in particular. He's well rounded, athletic, and competitive. If he works hard at fine tuning what it takes to be a pro, he could be great.
The Titans also should work on getting Cam better weapons ASAP. Calvin Ridley looks incredibly mid through three games. The offensive line is beaten up with a lot of injury which makes things harder. Running back Tyjae Spears is apparently still looking to play significantly in 2025/26. Maybe he'll look like what Titans fans have always wanted from him for a few years now. He always had good potential, he just can't stay healthy for long enough time periods it feels like. Spears should return from injury in roughly two-four weeks, leaning on the sooner side. It will be nice to see Tony Pollard get a bit of a break in carries like I know he expressed wanting in the past.
Yeah the Colts all of a sudden look like the dominant team in the AFC South, and by a considerable margin. The Colts have a big test in Los Angeles vs the Rams this week, easily their biggest test to date. Should be interesting to see how that goes down. The Colts literally feel like the 2019-21 Titans which is sorta cool if I'm being honest. Daniel Jones feels identical to Ryan Tannehill in skill level at this point in time. I think Henry was a slightly better RB than Jonathan Taylor but the Colts have a slightly better overall group of pass catchers. The Colts are a bit deeper in that department although having a young, prime A.J. Brown on the Titans does make it comparable. One area I think the Colts might be a better team is their offensive line. Their offensive line is pretty mean. Also, these Colts have played three games. The Vrabel-Henry-Brown-Tannehill era was a lot longer and more proven but it's fun to see the similarities and these Colts do have that potential maybe even greater who knows.
After Sunday's loss, Brian Callahan is giving up his play calling duties to QB Coach Bo Hardegree. Hardegree was an interim offensive coordinator for the Raiders in 2023 and helped win some games with Aidan O'Connell at QB. This is an interesting move by Callahan. It's pretty clear that Callahan's job could be on the hot seat but we shall see. I think maybe all the hot seat talk is speculation but idk. He did have yet another boneheaded mistake by basically making a 59 yard field goal into a 64 yarder because he couldn't decide if he wanted to go for it.
Promising young cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. was traded to the Jets yesterday. Brownlee Jr. has potential but can be a penalty machine and not known to be the best locker room guy ever. So that was pretty surprising.
Won't be shocked to see bigger changes around the corner....
I don't know what to think. The team is a mess, but I'm just staying patient and hoping for the best.
Texans next week!
