January 10th, 2025 - Philadelphia 76ers vs New Orleans Pelicans

Current Record: 24-11

C.J. McCollum and the Pelicans came to visit on this cold winter evening in Philly and The Machine nearly had a double-double! The Machine is really in a groove, he's definitely in the mix for Rookie of the Year!

The Pelicans put up a good fight but ultimately the Sixers got it done and won by 10. The team is looking dominant!

Final Stats: 14 Points, 3 Rebounds, 9 Assists
Teammate Grade: A+

๐ŸŒŽMy Thoughts on the Sports World Today๐ŸŒŽ

In the real world, the NFL season is nearing the Playoffs, and the NBA season rolls on. UFC 324 is a month away still so I'll reserve my thoughts on that for at some point in the future.

NFL

The Kansas City Chiefs are out of playoff contention. Nuts to write that. Patrick Mahomes is seriously injured, Travis Kelce very well might retire and yeah. It's very likely this phase of the Chiefs' dynasty may be coming to an end. I imagine it will be more of a pause than an absolute ending of course. Mahomes will return eventually and Andy Reid is probably still going to be around as well. Still just bonkers that they're out of it.

The Bengals are also out of it and man, it must be rough being a Bengals fan. So much potential and several years being wasted due to injury and bad defense. Just a crazy mix of bad luck and unfortunate events. Joe Burrow seems to be going through it as well.

The Ravens aren't doing all that much better. They are on the brink of elimination themselves and dealing with similar issues as the Bengals.

It's going to be an interesting Playoffs without some of those teams in the mix.

Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, and Jordan Love are pretty much in their prime and seem ready to make a deep run. The Eagles are always lingering. The Rams and Steelers are led by veteran quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers. Drake Maye, Caleb Williams and Bo Nix are looking to prove themselves as the next great QBs. Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars feel like dark horses. The Panthers have been really surprising which is cool. The Bucs have taken a step back or so it seems at the moment. The Texans are confusing but look pretty tough. The 49ers are still very much a threat and are probably way too overlooked. The Seahawks look like they're ready to prove everyone wrong.

These playoffs are going to be NUTS and we still have two regular season games as well. Unreal. I won't be shocked to see a few plot twists in these final weeks.

NBA

We're roughly a third of the way through the NBA season and it's definitely been fun. My Sixers are doing pretty good and so maybe that's why I feel that way buuut yeah.

The West is interesting to say the least. The Spurs are looking seriously good and the Thunder still look excellent.

LeBron and Luka and Reaves is a trio I never saw coming for the Lakers. Of course they have Deandre Ayton and Rui Hachimura as well.

The Nuggets look scary and ready to remind everyone how good they are. They seem to have a chip on their shoulder.

Otherwise the West doesn't look all that scary in my opinion, it's too early to tell I guess.

The East doesn't look that bad in comparison to the West. The West IS better but mostly because the West is so top heavy. The East maybe feels slightly deeper though. Detroit looks like a serious problem. The Knicks look as good as ever. The Celtics look good even without Jayson Tatum which is definitely impressive and a bit scary if he does return. The Sixers look good and still feel like they have room to improve. The Raptors are super deep and well rounded.

Meanwhile Giannis Antetokounmpo seems to want to be traded and if he does, that's going to be historic. The extremely well decorated future Hall of Famer is still only 31 years old. I'm pretty sure he's still got a lot left in the tank. I think if he does get traded it could be to the Knicks for Karl-Anthony Towns, another player, and a ton of draft picks. The Timberwolves would be an interesting destination too.

Whew, fun times!

The sports world never sleeps, till next time!

I have a buddy that is lifelong and he is so devastated. The Super Bowl loss by 3 points in 2021 didn't lead to the sort of stick around and still be good sort of team that he was hoping for and now it kind of looks like those guys are going to do what Cincy seems to do on a regular basis, just stink for the next decade.

Ugh! Hopefully they can get it together next season. They have a lot of good pieces! Something has to click eventually. When they're healthy and clicking, they are as good as it gets!
