Phillies struggle against the Cubs losing 10-4 | Regular Season Home Finale Tonight
Welp the Phillies may have been a bit fatigued after celebrating their Division Championship. Or maybe they simply got beat who knows. It was a bullpen game for the Phillies and it just did not turn out well. Both Tanner Banks and Taijuan Walker couldn't last two innings and both allowed three runs. In comparison to Banks and Walker, Kolby Allard sucked slightly less but not by much, he went four and allowed four. Tyler Gilbert resembled decent pitching. He threw two allowing zero. So the Phillies may not have stunk too bad after their Division victory game. Seems that the pitching was at fault here. Taijuan Walker may need to be off the roster soon...
Bryce Harper hit his 30th homer, a very strong milestone and Kyle Schwarber seems determined to hit 40 as he hit his 38th homer of 2024.
Luckily for the Phillies the Dodgers lost yesterday, so they didn't lose ground in the race for the number one seed, they're still a half game behind LA. But time is seriously ticking. This is the Phillies fourth to last game of the season. If they want this number one seed they have to try and win out and hope the Dodgers drop one soon. The Dodgers are still battling the Padres for the NL West.
It's another overcast, mid-low sixties type of night in the Philly area. Rain is possible but it does appear somewhat spotty so I think the game has a good shot at playing even if it drizzles or rains slightly here or there. Cristopher Sanchez take the mound tonight thankfully.
It is the regular season home finale and while it is not the last time the Phillies will play in the stadium in 2024, the last game of the regular season feels a bit intense because everyone knows the next time the Phillies play at Citizens Bank Park, it will be PLAYOFF time.
There's a lot to play for all over the MLB. September baseball has been fantastic.
