The star on Monday in the Phillies 4-0 victory over the Padres was almost certainly Zack Wheeler. The legendary pitcher threw eight clean innings of baseball, allowing zero runs and striking out ten! That's a pretty outstanding performance over a pretty good Padres team. That's why Wheeler is a rich man!

After the Phils won that opening game, the Philadelphia area was hit with some pretty good thunderstorms Tuesday and the game was actually cancelled fairly early. So today, the Phillies are having a doubleheader.

Game one was pretty competitive. It wasn't absurdly hot but it was properly hot today in Philly and I could just tell the players were feeling it a bit. The humidity in Pennsylvania would surprise you! The Padres got a big 6-0 lead early, many of those runs came as a result of an absurd amount of walks allowed! Mick Abel had no control early on. But the bullpen helped settle things slightly the rest of the game and Phillies did show some fight all the way to the bottom of the ninth inning but ultimately they went on to lose 6-4. A tough loss for sure! I feel like the Phillies will be locked in for this game in a few minutes. A double-header, what an interesting way to start July.

Oh yeah, on Monday, Bryce Harper made his return after being out nearly four weeks! Pretty good stuff. I hope he's really healed though. Luckily the All-Star break isn't far off so hopefully he gets some additional rest sprinkled in as well. Always glad to see his bat back in the lineup. Not sure what this means for Otto Kemp going forward. Hopefully he still gets an AB every so often.
