Phillies lose in a big way to the Marlins, begin two game series against the Rays tonight

It was admittedly difficult to keep track of the Phillies yesterday during football, but nothing too great happened anyway. The Phils got crushed. Nobody of significance pitched though, and it seems that was the plan from the start so starters could get rest and everything. Still I do not think the Phillies anticipated Seth Johnson pitching like total crap as he did yesterday. Allowing nine runs in just over two inning of work. Yikes, tough MLB debut.

Losing 10-1 is rough but scoring only one is obviously pretty poor as well. It was very nearly a shut-out too as they scored their only run in the ninth. Ultimately the Phils split their four game series 2-2 vs the Marlins.

The Phils are sending out Cristopher Sanchez to begin their series with the Rays. Hopefully Sanchez can provide some momentum and stability this evening.

The Phillies are still a game behind the Dodgers for the best record in baseball. After this small series the Phils will be facing the surging Mets. While the NL East is all but won, the surging Mets will be playing like it's a playoff game and it will be good to see how the Phils measure up against the improving, scrappy ball club.

For now though it's the Rays.

GO PHILS
