Phillies defeat Padres 3-2 yesterday | Cristopher Sánchez looks to extend scoreless innings streak today!
The Phillies returned home after a rough Dodgers series and bounced back well against the Padres!
Aaron Nola has shown some better consistency and had a nice day on the mound yesterday. He got through five innings, allowed two runs and had eight strikeouts. Those eight strikeouts are the most he's had since April 3rd when he had nine against the Rockies in Colorado. The Padres are a better team than the Rockies and so, this was certainly more impressive.
Offensively, the Phillies haven't scored five or more runs since May 18th which is actually kinda crazy. It goes to show just how good this pitching staff has been!
Despite the lack of legit offense, the Phillies did just enough and key players have been solid. Yesterday Bryce Harper had a key two-run homer to tie the game in the fourth, it was Harper's 14th. Brandon Marsh went 4 for 4! Marsh has GOT to be an All-Star this season. I'm so happy for him. If Marsh hasn't been having a career year, I wonder if this team would be where they're at right now.
Today should be fun, as Cristopher Sánchez takes the mound once again and looks to not only strengthen his Cy Young case, but to extend his amazing scoreless innings streak! His streak stands at 44 2/3 innings as I write this post! The all-time streak of 59 innings doesn't seem quite as unlikely all of a sudden! I know Sánchez must be thinking about it. I know I'll be on the edge of my seat throughout his entire start! Cristopher Sánchez is currently 6-2 with a 1.48 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP.
It's an excellent day for baseball in Philadelphia! Mid 80's to mid 70's sunny and clear!
