Phillies are slowly approaching rock bottom after seventh straight loss... | Kyle Backhus starts today followed by Taijuan Walker apparently...
Another day another Phillies loss. I'm not having a great time...
Again, as I said before, the two biggest stars on the team are actually producing for the most part. Kyle Schwarber hit his eighth homer yesterday, Bryce Harper hit his fifth. Schwarber's batting average is pretty lousy but he doesn't often hit for a great average. He is playing his role fairly well though as the team's biggest power threat.
Alec Bohm is hitting .128 with an OPS of .384. Bryson Stott and Adolis García are both hitting .210. Stott has an OPS of .511 and García's is .634. I don't want to pick on these guys for any particular reason other than to simply point out a sample of how these Phillies batters have been doing. Bohm, Stott, and García are three everyday players and well, they ain't really doing much of anything at the plate.
Only four Phillies have a league average or better OPS. From what I understand the league average bare minimum OPS is about .700. Well, Felix Reyes is a fifth player but he's only played two games. The other four with a respectable-good OPS are Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, Justin Crawford, and Brandon Marsh. So I guess props to them.
But that means everyone else needs to step it up.
Taijuan Walker is not starting today but will apparently pitch after the first inning or two. Kyle Backhus will start. Walker has been bad in general with an absurd 9.16 ERA but he's been extra bad in the first inning. So I guess the Phillies are trying anything to get a win at this point.
Yes a win feels impossible for the Phillies right now. It's like the team is melting.
But as a fan I am admittedly intrigued to see how they handle this strong adversity. I am a sucker for a good underdog/comeback story so maybe the Phillies will turn this thing around.
Hopefully SOON. LOL.
At the end of the day as always...
