Blake Snell quiets the Phillies Wednesday | Phillies stay out west to face Diamondbacks tonight

Ah well, the Phillies couldn't get the win on Wednesday unfortunately. The Dodgers still have the Padres right on their tails for the NL West title, so I imagine they were pretty focused. Blake Snell was his sharp self and tossed seven scoreless innings when his team really needed him. I respect it, given the situation of course LOL. Blake Snell simply proved again why he could very well be a Hall of Famer someday.

After a night off, the 91-62 Phillies head east a bit from LA to visit Chase Field in Phoenix to face the still very much alive 77-76 Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks are behind the Mets by two games for the last Wild Card position. The Reds have an identical record as the Diamondbacks but are ahead due to a tiebreaker of some kind. The Giants are three games behind the Mets, the Cardinals are five behind, and the Marlins six behind.

The Phillies are pretty firmly in the #2 seed. Five games above the Dodgers, and three game behind the Brewers.

So yeah, these last nine games of 2025 are about to be nuts. The Diamondbacks beat the Phillies in the playoffs two years ago. The Mets did the same last season and are of course massive rivals. A win or loss helps or hurts both these teams directly. Interesting. Well, all the Phillies can do is win.

The Phillies will apparently be doing a 'piggyback' type of situation in terms of who is starting for the Phillies tonight. Taijuan Walker will start the first inning or so, and then Walker Buehler will come in to get an extended unofficial start. Interesting. Walker and Buehler are both grey area starter/reliever type of pitchers and so this quick sort of chunked start could be valuable.

The energy in Arizona should be electric!
