A's fall to White Sox, losing the series | Big AL West showdown in Pacific Northwest vs Mariners tonight
Yesterday's game wasn't great for the A's. Jeffrey Springs couldn't keep his hot streak going from the mound as he gave up seven runs in five innings of work. After not giving up a homer all year, Springs gave up four yesterday. Tough, hopefully he bounces back next time.
I'm not massively discouraged by the loss. A lot of signs are pointing to the White Sox being a better team in 2026 than they were last year. Also, while they couldn't replicate Saturday's awesome comeback victory they once again showed respectable fight as in the seventh they scored three runs to make it a 7-4 game. While they ultimately ended up losing by that score, they did briefly have a bit of momentum, especially considering they knew they came back the day prior. Shoutout to Munetaka Murakami of the White Sox, he looks great. He homered in three consecutive games against the A's. He's definitely firmly in early discussions for AL Rookie of the Year.
J.T. Ginn takes the mound for the A's tonight against the rival Mariners. I still dread playing the Mariners. Well, I personally am not facing the Mariners obviously but you know what I mean LOL. Back when I was more closely following the A's, I always was stressed when the A's faced them. Now that I'm back following the A's again it's interesting to get those feelings all over again.
The AL West Standings are extremely tight right now. The A's are tied in first with the Rangers at 11-11. The Angels and Mariners are right behind them. The Angels are 11-12 and Mariners are 10-13. The Astros are 8-15 but have been good forever at this point and so they are still very much relevant in the division too. All in all this division is a lot more interesting than the NL East where the Braves are burying my Phillies and the whole division at this point!
The Mariners are certainly very much alive but I'm sure they see this series as a chance to get into potentially first place in the division.
But the A's can push the Mariners back some with success of their own!
May is approaching now.... this is a fun April series for sure!
